Mohamed Salah is reportedly “increasingly likely” to leave Liverpool when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the season. The Egyptian’s future at Anfield has been the subject of considerable speculation for several months, despite having only signed a new deal last year.
Salah’s contract at Liverpool is set to expire in the summer of 2027, with the 33-year-old agreeing a two-year extension to remain with the Reds last April.
For several years, rumours have persisted that a switch to the Saudi Pro League could be on the horizon for the forward. Now, a fresh development has emerged regarding his future, suggesting that an exit may not be far off.
BBC Sport have reported that Salah is “increasingly likely” to leave Liverpool this summer, with two destinations surfacing as potential options for the two-time Premier League winner.
Clubs in the Saudi Pro League are said to be an option for the forward, though this would hinge on interest from sides within the league, alongside teams being prepared to meet his wage demands.
It has also been suggested that Salah could move to a club in the United States, with Liverpool keen to avoid the No.11 walking away from Merseyside as a free agent at the end of next season.
The player’s future is set to remain unclear until the summer transfer window opens, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Saudi Pro League clubs registered their interest once more, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Liverpool turned down a £150million bid for Salah from Al Ittihad in the summer of 2023, though whether Saudi Pro League clubs will table another offer at the end of the season remains to be seen.
The forward’s future became a significant topic earlier in the campaign after he gave an interview stating he had “no relationship” with head coach Arne Slot, having been named amongst the substitutes for three successive fixtures.
Liverpool then omitted Salah from the matchday squad entirely for their following game, before he returned to the bench for the Premier League victory over Brighton in December, where the Egyptian delivered an impressive cameo before joining his national team for the Africa Cup of Nations.
No transfer materialised during the January window, with the forward heading back to Liverpool and re-establishing himself as a vital player for Slot’s team once more.
The same report suggests that one member of the Egypt national team staff remarked it was the most content they had seen Salah after he apologised to colleagues and made up with Slot ahead of AFCON.
However, Salah has failed to find the back of the net in the five Premier League fixtures he’s featured for Liverpool since his January return, with his most recent goal in the top flight coming in the victory over Aston Villa on November 1.
