Leeds United manager Daniel Farke plans to appeal the red card he received after his team’s home loss to Manchester City, and will ask the FA to scrutinise ‘ref cam’ footage in an effort to have it rescinded. Farke was shown the red card post-match at Elland Road as he approached referee Peter Bankes.
However, Farke insists the card was shown before he had even spoken to the officials. The German was left baffled by the decision and could be seen asking Bankes about the reason for his dismissal. Farke has discussed the incident with club officials and is confident that footage from the camera Bankes wore on his ear during the match will vindicate him.
It’s understood Leeds will submit a formal appeal to the FA. The club are optimistic that video evidence will demonstrate Farke has no case to answer.
Farke now faces a potential suspension, but is still anticipated to be pitch-side for Tuesday’s pivotal home match against Sunderland, as his case is unlikely to be resolved in time.
Leeds assistant manager Edmund Riemer defended Farke, stating: “I am disappointed because he’s never a manager who’s over-aggressive or over-reacting. I think it’s a very harsh decision.”
The Premier League Match Centre said on X: “Daniel Farke was shown a red card for entering the pitch and confronting the referee after the final whistle.”
