West Ham United’s declaration that they must offload players could provide Tottenham Hotspur with an opportunity to sign Jarrod Bowen this summer.
Spurs are reported to have made enquiries about the England international during previous transfer windows. His employers have now revealed a £104.2 million deficit for the previous financial year, their most substantial since their Premier League return in 2012.
Lucas Paqueta’s departure from the club in January for a reported £36m will have assisted in this regard, though will be reflected in the subsequent set of accounts. The Brazilian was among West Ham’s top earners, alongside their present captain Bowen.
TEAMtalk suggests that Tottenham have maintained long-standing admiration for the forward and consider him a “complete footballer”, ideally positioned to assist their quest for UEFA competition qualification next season. They reference sources when asserting the player regards his future as “very open”

Manchester United have been similarly credited with interest in Bowen. Following these reports, West Ham have published their most recent financial results.
The club is projecting a liquidity deficit this summer and will need to take corrective measures to meet their obligations as they come due. West Ham claim they are aware that revenue from additional player transactions and transfer fees will be the best way for them to meet that deficit.
They also claim that relegation this season would trigger a more serious cash flow crisis and necessitate more substantial measures. The club indicates such steps include additional player sales to secure transfer revenue and salary reductions, with Bowen representing one of the club’s most prized assets.
That may well open the path for Tottenham to make their move in the coming weeks and months.

Regarding player departures, their strategic report highlights they possess a “proven track record of player trading” and notes that “there is an active market for players”. Though they also confirm their owners have signed a letter of support pledging to supply adequate funding should they fail to raise sufficient funds through transfer dealings.
Bowen, though, has expressed his desire to feature in considerably more fixtures for the club. He has informed West Ham TV: “I’ve been here six years in January and it’s been crazy.
“Lots of highs, lots of lows, but I honestly loved every single minute of it, and, you know, hopefully there’s many more many more games to come.
“Getting to 500 (appearances) would be something, but I’m trying to do the maths of how old I’ve got to be to figure it all out, you know? We’ll see how the legs hold up over the next seven years or so.”
If Bowen was to change his tune, upon possible relegation, then he may be the perfect type of forward for Tottenham. Spurs fell to yet another defeat, losing 2-1 to Fulham, to hit ten games without a win in the Premier League.
Both leadership and creativity have been absent for the Lilywhites, and Bowen may provide that, but it will require a few things going their way first.
