Brits told ‘take cover’ as war spreads to Lebanon and explosions rock 10 countries | World | News
At least 31 people have been killed as Israel attacked Lebanon overnight. The country’s Health Ministry said 149 people have also been injured. Explosions have also rocked an RAF base in Cyprus as Iran continues to hit back following the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. There were no casualties in the incident at the base near Limassol in the early hours of Monday, but the Sovereign Base Areas Administration said “a temporary dispersal” was being planned for non-essential personnel.
An MOD spokesperson said: “Our armed forces are responding to a suspected drone strike at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus at midnight local time. Our force protection in the region is at the highest level and the base has responded to defend our people. This is a live situation and further information will be provided in due course.”
Personnel on the base have been told to “take cover” following the suspected drone attack which is understood to have caused damage to an airfield.
An alert seen by The Sun said: “There is an ongoing security threat.
“Please return to your homes and stay inside until further notice.”
It added: “Move away from windows and take cover behind or beneath substantial, solid furniture.
“Please await further instructions.”
The attack in Lebanon overnight makes it the latest country to be hit following the launch of military action by the United States and Israel on Saturday.
Israel has launched strikes against Hezbollah in Beirut after the group fired missiles across the border.

The Israeli military confirmed it intercepted a missile and reported no injuries, later urging residents in 50 Lebanese villages to evacuate ahead of possible retaliatory action.
Missiles and drones have also been launched towards Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
More than 200,000 British nationals, including military personnel, are thought to be at risk in the Gulf as the Tehran regime launches further missiles at its neighbours.
He said: “We have taken the decision to accept this request – to prevent Iran firing missiles across the region, killing innocent civilians, putting British lives at risk, and hitting countries that have not been involved.”
