The age-old adage about karma certainly rang true for one fortunate woman. Many hold the belief that performing acts of kindness brings positive outcomes in return. Conversely, those who treat others poorly may find themselves without assistance during difficult times.
A woman on social media demonstrated this principle perfectly when she received an unexpected reward after feeding a homeless cat near her residence. Giselle discovered a stray feline close to her home and chose to provide it with nourishment, and several days afterwards, the animal returned to her property with something she wished Giselle to witness.
In footage posted on TikTok, Giselle explained the cat had come back accompanied by her five kittens. The moment the woman opened her front door, the mother and her offspring immediately rushed into her home.
It appears Giselle was thoroughly thrilled with the development. She wrote on her video: “Throwback to when we fed a stray cat, and she returned with all her babies.”
Those commenting on Giselle’s footage were swift to suggest she should adopt the mother and her young, assuming they genuinely are homeless and lack an owner, whilst also expressing they were “jealous” that such an occurrence hasn’t befallen them.
One individual remarked: “Tell me you kept every single one of them!” Another commented: “I’d shrug and just accept my new life as a parent of five kittens and a momma cat. Could be worse.”
A third posted: “Oh my god, all of them just coming in! Please tell me you helped these angels.”
Giselle posted a follow-up video in which she explained she was regrettably not able to take the cats in herself. However, her neighbour has helped secure them all loving new homes, so they will no longer be out on the streets.
She already has a dog who was “very mean” to the cats and wasn’t a fan of having them in the house, so she didn’t think it was fair to keep any of them.
Giselle also revealed she used to have a cat that was with her for 13 years before she passed away – and ever since, she hasn’t felt ready to take in another cat.
She added: “But the good news is, the kittens all did find homes. Whilst they were getting their lunch and dinner from me, they were getting their breakfast from another neighbour, and said neighbour was the one who helped them all find homes.”
What to do if you find a lost or stray cat
It can be difficult to determine if a cat is a stray or simply an owned cat roaming around outside. The RSPCA states that as a charity with limited resources, it cannot respond to calls about healthy stray cats, and it will only help animals suffering from cruelty or neglect.
However, they have shared some guidance if you find a stray, feral, or lost cat:
- Check to see if the cat is wearing a collar or tag with the contact details of the owner – only approach if the cat is calm.
- Ask around locally. Cats roam over a wide area, and sometimes they can be mistaken for strays even when they have owners.
- Contact the local vet to scan for a microchip.
- Advertise on social media and ask around locally.
- Register the found cat on Animal Search UK.
If you’re unable to locate an owner, you have the option to rehome a stray cat yourself. If you’re not in a position to keep the cat, a local animal rescue charity might be able to assist, and the RSPCA suggests reaching out to trustworthy organisations like local RSPCA animal centres or Cats Protection.
