Electric car with longest range named and it’s not a Tesla, BMW, or Au
With the crisis in the Middle East sending the price of oil skyrocketing, more people are considering whether to switch to electric cars.
As a result, one question they may be considering is how far their prospective electric car can go, a topic that has dominated discussions since the beginning of the electric car renaissance in the 2010s.
Despite the thousands of charging points in the UK, range is still a big question mark for potential electric car buyers. Thankfully, Which? has put together a list of the EVs (electric vehicles) with the longest ranges to help any prospective buyers.
Which? said that they judged which car had the furthest range “based on the versions of each model with the largest battery option”.
Coming in first is the £64,860 Volvo EX60 from Sweden, which has a range of 503 miles in the car’s P12 AWD trim.
Meanwhile, coming in second just behind the Volvo with 500 miles of claimed range is the £58,755 BMW iX3 50 xDrive with 20 inch aerodynamic wheels.
In third place was the Mercedes Benz EQS 450+ AMG Line Premium Saloon costing £112,620 that has a range of 485 miles.
Although there is now a vast range of electric cars in all manner of price brackets for British buyers to choose from, there are concerns they may not be becoming popular enough fast enough as time ticks down to the UK’s petrol and diesel car ban in 2030.
They have said the mandate needs to be “reviewed” as experts warn that there is a discrepancy between how many electric cars there are and how many people want them.
Speaking to the Express, Auto Express’s Steve Walker claimed there was “a mismatch between supply and demand”.
He explained: “The core issue is a mismatch between supply and demand. The ZEV mandate is pushing manufacturers to rapidly increase EV supply, but consumer demand hasn’t fully caught up.”
However, as the crisis in the Middle East continues, and oil prices fluctuate along with them, more people on the fence about buying an electric or hybrid car may decide to save money by going greener.
