Royal Mail delivery delays hit 27 UK postcode areas today — full list
Royal Mail has issued a delivery update for certain postcodes across the UK experiencing delays. The delivery firm has published a list of affected areas impacted by the disruption.
As of Tuesday, March 31, delays are being reported across the UK. Royal Mail’s air network operated to schedule over the past 24 hours, however its road network did not. Royal Mail said: “Last night, a breakdown delayed the departure of a vehicle travelling from our Midlands Hub to our Glasgow Mail Centre.
“Mail was transferred via contingency services and may have missed connections. As a result, some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK, due for delivery today in the G, KA, ML and PA postcode areas may arrive later than planned.”
It added that technical issues at its Princess Royal Distribution Centre in London had delayed the departure of some mail destined for the Swindon Mail Centre, reports the Mirror.
The disruption means that some mail posted yesterday in London and the southeast that was due for delivery today in the OX, RG and SN postcode areas may arrive later than expected.
Royal Mail said: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.
“In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”
This comes as the company has encountered criticism regarding its delayed deliveries alongside stamp price increases next month. Its owner Daniel Kretinsky told MPs: “Of course I am deeply sorry for any letters that arrive late.”
Nevertheless, last week he refuted suggestions that Royal Mail’s track record for letters arriving late was deteriorating. Speaking to the Commons Business select committee, Mr Kretinsky said: “It is not perfect, but it is not catastrophic.”
Royal Mail was handed a £21million fine last October for failing to meet First and Second Class delivery targets in its previous financial year. Now, customers are facing a stamp increase.
First Class stamps will rise to £1.80 and Second Class to 91p from April 6. The price of a First Class stamp in 2020 was 76p.
