Trump rejects ceasefire and threatens to ‘blast Iran into oblivion’ as WW3 fears soar | World | News
Donald Trump threatened to “blast Iran into oblivion” and “back to the stone age” in a furious Truth Social post on Wednesday as he rejected a ceasefire agreement with Tehran. He insisted America will consider this when the “Hormuz Strait is open, free and clear“.
The US President added that Iran’s New Regime President, Masoud Pezeshkian, who he says is “much less radicalised and far more intelligent than his predecessors”, is the person who asked for a ceasefire. Iranian officials have so far denied seeking a ceasefire, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi insisting Tehran wants a complete end to the conflict rather than a temporary pause in fighting. Iran has so far denied negotiations with the White House and at this stage, it is not clear if the Iranian President has the power to speak on behalf of the regime. Trump has previously insisted the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would not be an issue for the United States, suggesting it would happen quickly once the conflict is over.
Trump is expected to deliver televised remarks on the Iran war at 2am UK time on Thursday morning.
Speaking on Wednesday, he also told The Telegraph he is strongly considering pulling the United States out of NATO after it failed to join his war on Iran.
He told the outlet he sees NATO as a “paper tiger” and was considering pulling the US out of the defence alliance.
On Tuesday, Trump indicated the US will be finished in Iran in “two or three weeks”, regardless of whether a deal is done with Tehran.
Speaking at the White House, Trump also said oil prices will “come tumbling down” once US forces withdraw from the country.
He reiterated his claim that regime change in Iran has “been achieved”.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Pentagon on Tuesday, US chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff Dan Caine confirmed more than 11,000 targets have been struck over the past 30 days.
The Navy was also reported to have successfully taken out more than 150 ships.
Pete Hegseth, the US Secretary of War, also said the upcoming days will be “decisive”.
He added: “American firepower is only increasing. Iran’s decreasing. We have more and more options, and they have less.
“Just one month, in only one month, we set the terms.
“The upcoming days will be decisive and Iran knows that, and there’s almost nothing they can militarily do about it.”
