Nationwide update for customers paying coins into personal accounts | Personal Finance | Finance
Nationwide has shared advice for customers who wish to deposit coins into their accounts. The building society has explained that members can speed up the process when visiting a Nationwide branch by bagging up their coins by type.
The guidance could be helpful to customers who are unaware of how to pay in different coins. The building society highlighted its policy on social media when a member got in touch to ask if they could pay in ‘various coins’.
Getting in touch with AskNationwide on X, a social media user wrote: “Hi I’d like to pay in various coins. Do I need to book that in and how should they be packaged? Thanks.”
Replying to the question, a member of the customer service team shared a link to Nationwide’s latest guidance on its website. AskNationwide said: “Hi there, you can find out more about depositing coins here: http://spr.ly/6016B62AR4.”
The advice explains that Nationwide members can pay bags of coins into their current account or savings account. The service is available at all branches.
Additionally, customers can pay in various coins, but they need to be in bags organised by coin type. Nationwide explains: “Please group all of the same type of coins together when bagging them up. This will help us to process your deposit quickly and easily.”
There is also a maximum amount of coins per bag, though there is no limit on the number of bags that members can deposit. The website says: “You can deposit full bags of either:
“You can deposit any amount of full bags into your account. We just ask that you separate the coins into full bags that contain only one type of coin.” However, customers are advised to call ahead if they are planning to deposit a large number of coins.
It is worth noting that different rules may apply to businesses and trade. Nationwide explains: “We do not accept any coins from businesses or trade. Whilst we’ll try to accept any cash you want to deposit, it’s at the discretion of our branches to either accept or refuse coins.”
Nationwide operates over 600 branches across the UK. Find your nearest location here by searching via city, town or postcode.
