White House staff fear Trump has ‘gone insane’ as dire nuclear warning issued | World | News
Insiders in Washington have become increasingly worried that President Donald Trump is ‘insane’, according to an expert.
Writing for the iPaper, US commentator Simon Marks, said Donald Trump’s increasingly erratic behaviour in the last few days have dramatically amplified the debate within Washington over whether the Commander-in-Chief is of sound mind.
He also mentioned a New York Times’ investigation claiming that Trump was showing “signs of fatigue” and the “realities of aging in office”, this week tiptoed further towards the central issue with the opinion piece: “The Trump Administration is in a Psychotic State”.
The iPaper also explained how the New York Times also published an item by Chief White House Correspondent Peter Baker, who wrote that Trump’s “erratic behavior and extreme comments in recent days … have turbocharged the crazy-like-a-fox-or-just-plain-crazy debate”.
Jonathan Rauch of the Brookings Institution, a veteran Washington insider said last week’s expletive-laden social media post – which came shortly before his threat that “a whole civilization will die tonight” – was the turning point, the iPaper also wrote.
“There is a lot more talk of presidential insanity,” he says. “Mainstream media has become gun shy and they’ve become convinced that they’re part of the problem, that they have actually empowered him by insulting him to his face.”
He added that “it reaches a point where it becomes impossible not to talk about it and I think maybe we’re at that point”.
The experts also mentioned the now-deleted post on Truth Social of an AI-created meme in which Mr Trump depicted himself as Jesus, saying it was a step too far.
Mr Trump’s supportes took to social media to criticise him and wrote: “Not trying to sound like a lefty here but, I’m done with Trump. Him posting this confirms he is trying to create a cult.”
Another user said: “Mr. President, I totally support your actions as PRESIDENT, but this post is TERRIBLE. You are totally disrespecting the Christian men and women who have supported you. For once, I am very sad to say you disappointed me.”
