Lloyds Bank issues ‘key alert’ update for customers | Personal Finance | Finance


Lloyds Bank has issued an update about some important messages going out to customers. The group spoke about after a question from a customer about emails they had received from the bank.

The customer contacted the savings giant over social media to voice their frustration at their situation. They explained that they had set up their account to be sent paper correspondence and statements.

Yet they claimed that bank “persist in advising me by email that a direct debit has been made to clear my credit card balance”. They had some blunt words of instruction for the bank about how they would like to be contacted in future.

The person said: “You may use my email when I have an email address for you. Meanwhile stop it.” Lloyds responded to explain its standard processes.

Key alerts

A representative told the customer: “Some key alerts (like direct debit confirmations) may still be sent by email. This won’t change how you get your statements.”

They also told the person they could change how they get these alerts, explaining: “You can switch these alerts on or off in the Mobile Banking app.”

Lloyds also shared a link to some guidance on the group’s website about how to manage the notifications you get in the app. The information sets out that you can get these app notifications, known as push notifications, on either your mobile phone or tablet device.

The guidance gives these three examples of where Lloyds may send you an alert:

On the subject of cashback offers, the bank is currently offering up to £1,800 in cashback if you’ll move over your savings to them. Full details are available on the Lloyds website.

The customer said they had turned off these alerts in the app. They said: “Every setting is off so I ask again why do you waste my time with pointless emails?”

Lloyds apologised to the customer for the situation and they were still seemingly getting the emails. The group said: “Some system emails can still be sent, but this isn’t the experience you’d expect.”

The bank is also currently offering some bonus cash if you’ll switch over to them. You can get a £200 payment if you’ll switch to a new Club Lloyds, Club Lloyds Silver or Club Lloyds Platinum current account.
