The 33-year-old was emotional as he trudged off the pitch with help from the physio, complaining of a hamstring concern. Recent reports from Egypt also claimed that he was set to be absent until this summer’s World Cup, where he is competing in North America for his country.

But Liverpool have now announced that such claims are premature, with Salah undergoing further testing and the club is optimistic that he will play before the season draws to a close.

They wrote: “Liverpool FC can confirm Mohamed Salah is expected to be available to play again before the end of this season. The No.11 was substituted during the second half of last Saturday’s Premier League win over Crystal Palace at Anfield.

“The issue that caused his withdrawal has now been confirmed as a minor muscle injury. It is, however, anticipated Salah will return to action ahead of 2025-26’s conclusion and his departure from the Reds this summer.”

Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan had previously stated that Salah would need four weeks of treatment, ruling him out of Liverpool’s last four matches.

“He ‌‌has suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment,” Hassan told Reuters. “We don’t know [about playing for Liverpool again]. That is the best answer I can give.

“There might be a chance but we simply don’t know. What we do know is that the season is over in four or five weeks so there are not a lot of games and we have to wait and see how.

“But Mo has taken such good care of his body all these years that he will have the minimum time required to recover. Let’s hope for the best.”

Speaking after the win against Palace, Slot said: “Another win and another injury. It’s the story of our season. It’s too early to say but we all know Mo and how hard it is for him to leave the pitch. For Mo to leave the pitch, it shows you something but we have to wait and see how bad it is.”

The Liverpool head coach will provide another update on Salah ahead of Sunday’s trip to Manchester United.
