Man Utd next manager latest with target ‘attracted’ to Premier League rivals | Football | Sport
Chelsea could hold the upper hand over Manchester United this summer in the race to secure Andoni Iraola as their new manager. The Blues have been linked with the Bournemouth boss as a potential new head coach, with an appointment widely expected to be confirmed this summer. Iraola has already made clear that he will leave Bournemouth when his contract expires at the end of the season, sparking considerable speculation about where he could be heading.
Chelsea are also in the market for a new manager following Liam Rosenior’s exit last week, with interim boss Calum McFarlane stepping in until the season concludes. United will similarly be expected to bring in a new permanent manager in the coming weeks or months, with Michael Carrick having served as interim boss since January and remaining a contender for the role on a full-time basis.
Iraola has been linked with both Chelsea and United in recent months, and a fresh report may now offer the Blues a significant boost should they opt to pursue his signature.
According to The Telegraph, Iraola is “attracted” to the idea of taking a job in London, which could prove a considerable advantage for Chelsea if they decide to make a move.
Crystal Palace are also mentioned in the report as being keen on appointing Iraola as their next manager, with Oliver Glasner widely anticipated to leave Selhurst Park when the season draws to a close.
Iraola recently discussed his choice to depart Bournemouth at the end of the season, admitting that he has yet to determine his next move.
“The decision was not about any other club, there was no other club involved, it was about either continuing here or not continuing here,” he said.
“I don’t know what I want to do next season. I don’t know if I am going to coach a team, a club. I don’t know if I am going to coach an international team.
“I don’t know if I am going to coach in this continent. I have no idea what is going to happen. I don’t know if you are going to believe me, but it is the truth. And also, I don’t have any rush to want to know it.
“I have taken a big decision for me, now I want to focus on what we have in this moment. These next six games are massive for us. There is going to be time to think.”
