The PGA Tour has instructed spectators to leave Quail Hollow following a delay to the start of round three of the Truist Championship, caused by thunderstorms sweeping through Charlotte, North Carolina. Posting on X, the Truist Championship wrote: “UPDATE 8:10 a.m. Due to area thunderstorms, play has been delayed at the Truist Championship. As a result of this decision, and out of an abundance of caution, all spectators should exit the premises for their safety.”
Prior to that announcement, it had already been confirmed that the third round would be pushed back, with the Truist Championship subsequently revealing that practice facilities remained open. Following the disruption, play is now anticipated to commence at 8.50am local time, with Sam Stevens and Ryan Fox teeing off as the third pairing of the day.
As the third day of competition at Quail Hollow gets underway, South Korea’s Sungjae Im leads the field at 9-under.
“I know this course very well, so I’m taking advantage of that,” said Im, who is chasing his first PGA Tour victory since 2021, on Friday.
“And then the scrambling, because of the play with the Presidents Cup, I know where to miss the greens, I’m very familiar with this golf course.”

Im currently holds a one-shot advantage over Tommy Fleetwood, who sits second on 8-under, and a two-shot lead over Justin Thomas and Alex Fitzpatrick, both on 7-under. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy occupies T8 on 5-under.
Thomas carded a three-under 68 on Friday and held the clubhouse lead when he completed his round. Speaking after his round, the two-time major champion revealed he had messaged Cameron Young’s equipment team to take the putter his Ryder Cup colleague has been using.

“[I’m] using a totally new putter this week,” said Thomas, adding: “I literally texted Cameron’s [Young] guys and said, ‘just give me Cam’s putter.’
“I’ve been watching him make putts for a pretty good amount of time now, and I’ve always thought it looks really good, so I was like, I want Cam Young’s putter.
“Coincidentally, I get paired with him this week and we had the exact same shoes on yesterday, and it’s like, I promise I’m not trying to copy everything you do… but I’m maybe trying to copy everything you do.
“It’s a similar putter to what I used in the past, in terms of toe hang and what I felt, but yeah, it’s just, for me, it’s just so hard to putt well if you don’t have confidence; and so hard to have confidence unless you’re seeing it go in more often.”
