Marcus Rashford is reportedly willing to go to remarkable lengths to seal a permanent transfer to Barcelona. The Manchester United forward, who has spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at the Camp Nou, is determined to stay in Catalonia beyond the summer.

While Barcelona and United have been in discussions for several months, the two clubs have still failed to find common ground, leaving Rashford’s future in limbo. United are holding firm on their £26.2million valuation of the player, a price Barcelona are currently unwilling to meet. Yet Rashford is now believed to be ready to make significant sacrifices to help facilitate the move.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Rashford had already agreed in principle to a three-year contract with Barcelona that features a 40 per cent cut on his Old Trafford salary.

However, with talks grinding to a halt, he is now prepared to abandon that arrangement and commit to a five-year deal instead, believing it may be the only way to make the transfer financially feasible.

Barcelona’s widely-reported financial difficulties have made negotiations more complex, with the club preferring another loan arrangement rather than a permanent deal. The complication centres on how the £26.2m fee would be amortised over Rashford’s contract duration, which would affect the club’s accounts.

United, however, are refusing to approve another temporary switch and maintain that Rashford must leave permanently or remain at the club.

As a result, Rashford is prepared to extend the proposed contract to five years, enabling Barcelona to spread the transfer expense over a longer period and substantially lower the annual financial obligation.

Rashford has recorded 14 goals and 14 assists in 48 appearances for Barcelona, who have been satisfied with his displays this campaign.

With Ruben Amorim, under whose management Rashford’s relationship with United deteriorated, now no longer at the helm, a return to Old Trafford is not completely ruled out, especially with Rashford’s former team-mate, Michael Carrick, expected to be appointed permanent manager in the coming days.

Nevertheless, Rashford’s preference has stayed unchanged throughout the season: he wishes to remain at Barcelona. Despite the managerial alterations in Manchester and the possibility of a clean slate, there is scant evidence that his position on a permanent move to Spain has altered.
