Billionaire golf heir lived in incredible £68m mansion with its own golf course | Golf | Sport
A PGA Tour star who stands to inherit a multi-billion-pound fortune grew up in a sprawling mansion complete with its very own golf course. Maverick McNealy, who featured in last week’s PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club, is the son of Scott McNealy, an American businessman best known for co-founding the computer technology giant Sun Microsystems.
One of the greatest privileges he enjoyed was the magnificent five-bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion shared with the wider McNealy family, including his three brothers.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the San Francisco property spans a remarkable 28,000 square feet and was placed on the market for £68m three years ago.
The residence is said to feature a 4,700 square-foot gym, a climbing wall, disco, wine cellar, sauna and spa — and, for good measure, a fully functioning ice rink.
Yet it was the on-site golf course where a young Maverick would most likely have spent the bulk of his teenage years. According to the publication, the property boasts a dedicated golf practice area, fully equipped with several pins and a putting green.
Due to his privileged upbringing, McNealy has consistently faced accusations of nepotism and was even subjected to mocking chants at the Genesis Open last year.
After being taunted with numerous “Daddy’s money” jibes, McNealy revealed on the Skratch Podcast: “It’s nothing new. I was called, you know, ‘Rich Kid’ in third grade, and I was like, really, what does that mean?
“My parents told us growing up that we had a lot of opportunities, and we had wonderful opportunities given to us.
“But my parents said that you’re going to have to be nicer, treat people better, work harder, and you know, all of that because there will be some people that want to play that card and say that you are where you are because of the opportunities you were given in your background growing up-which I’m unbelievably grateful for.”
He added: “It didn’t bother me, because I like to think if you take the time to get to know me, that’s not me. A couple of people that have a couple of alcoholic beverages like to make a rise and say something funny for their friends.”
