Chatting with the host, Macca said: “It’s fantastic to come back here. I always remember the girls in the balcony. Mr Sullivan was really nice, he was a really cool guy. We’d never been to America, we come here and people said this is like the biggest show. To tell you truth, we’d never heard of him!”

McCartney, 83, continued: “Looking back on it now, what I’m pleased with, we’re live and we sound good man. We were a little bit nervous, but we were young kids and we were full of ourselves. It was very exciting.” The Beatles legend then saw the Late Show off by performing Hello Goodbye alongside Colbert, Louis Cato, Jon Batiste, Elvis Costello and The Great Big Joy Machine, as the show’s staff joined in the singalong.
