Mohamed Salah in tears as Liverpool legend makes incredible gesture | Football | Sport

Mohamed Salah was in tears as he bid an emotional farewell to Liverpool on his final game for the club, as he prepares to leave on a free transfer this summer. The club legend claimed an assist on the last day of the Premier League season, against Brentford, before departing the Anfield pitch to a standing ovation.

When Arne Slot decided to bring Salah off, the entire stadium got to their feet to applaud Salah and thank him for the contributions he has made to league and Champions League wins. Salah announced earlier this year that he will move on after a difficult final season on Merseyside.

The players came to Salah’s side as he spent several minutes taking in the occasion, applauding each corner of Anfield and enjoying moments with each of his team-mates.

He also got down on his knees and bowed to the stadium in an incredible gesture of gratitude, given their unwavering support over the years. Salah was also given a guard of honour before finally stepping off the pitch and taking his place on the bench.

Before the match, a giant tifo was unveiled in the Kop end as the Liverpool fans paid tribute to the winger on his final farewell.

Ahead of the Brentford fixture, Salah appeared to launch a stinging attack on Arne Slot with a scathing review of Liverpool‘s current situation on social media.

He wrote: “I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies.

“That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it. Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about.”

Slot was later quizzed on Salah’s post, which was liked by several Liverpool team-mates, and said: “I don’t think it is that important what I feel.

“What is important is that we qualify for the Champions League on Sunday and I prepare Mo and the whole team in the best possible way for the game.

“I was very disappointed after our loss against Villa because a win would have given us qualification for the Champions League which we didn’t get. Now there’s one game to go which is a vital one for us as a club.

“The impact, I don’t know if it had an impact on the group, but what I have seen is that the team trained really well this week and we hope to continue really well in the upcoming two days so we’re as best prepared as possible. Mo and I both have the same interest, we want the best for this club.”
