Liverpool move for Arne Slot replacement as chief flies out for talks | Football | Sport
Arne Slot’s position at Liverpool appears increasingly precarious amid the latest reports surrounding the Dutchman’s future at Anfield. The Reds head coach oversaw a dismal defence of their Premier League title as the club stumbled to a fifth-place finish with just 60 points, 24 fewer than the previous season.
Slot faced relentless scrutiny throughout the campaign, yet reports surfaced suggesting that club owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) remain firmly committed to their faith in him. The 47-year-old has already turned his attention to summer planning, highlighting the need for a new winger following Mohamed Salah’s departure.
However, that has done little to quell mounting speculation over Liverpool‘s potential activity in the managerial market, while a key Reds figure is reportedly eyeing an exit from Merseyside.
Express Sport examines the latest developments emerging from Anfield…
Reds ‘make move’ in Slot blow
Slot has just one year remaining on his Liverpool contract, but may find himself unable to see it through, after reports emerged that the Reds have made enquiries regarding Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, according to Di Marzio.
The former league champions are believed to be weighing up their managerial alternatives and, with interest in the Spaniard reportedly gathering pace, it promises to be a fascinating summer at Anfield.
Iraola, 43, has reportedly been approached by AC Milan as a potential successor to Max Allegri, with Sky Sports Italy reporting that, alongside Liverpool, the manager has attracted interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Crystal Palace.
Any discussions surrounding Iraola would be geared towards the future rather than an immediate appointment, though the Reds risking losing out on the manager should they opt to give Slot further time to turn things around at Anfield.
Club chiefs holds talks over transfer
According to Di Marzio, the Reds’ sporting director Richard Hughes flew to Monte Carlo on Tuesday to hold talks with Inter Milan counterpart Piero Ausilio over a potential transfer.
The Italian giants were reportedly keen on the 25-year-old during the January transfer window before Slot blocked the Liverpool-born midfielder’s departure.
Jones has just one year remaining on his contract and is said to be prioritising a move to Inter.
