The Isle of Man TT Races has confirmed that Daniel Ingham was killed during a qualifying session on Wednesday. The 33-year-old was involved in an incident on Doran’s Bend on the first lap of the third qualifying session.
Ingham is survived by his wife, Helayna, and two children, Joey and Phoebe. It marks the second death within a week after Alan Oversby, 68, lost his life while racing on the Isle of Man in a pre-TT race on Sunday.
Ingham was making his debut at the TT and is described as a ‘popular and well-respected member of the road racing community’.
A statement read: “The Isle of Man TT Races regrets to confirm that Daniel Ingham, 33, from Melton Mowbray, was killed in an incident during qualifying yesterday at the Isle of Man TT Races. The accident occurred at Doran’s Bend, on the first lap of the third qualifying session.
“Daniel made his Mountain Course debut in 2016 as a competitor in the Manx Grand Prix before graduating to the Isle of Man TT Races. He had achieved a number of podium finishes during his 10 years’ experience of competing – most notably achieving a 1st place in the 2024 Senior Manx Grand Prix.
“The Isle of Man TT Races pass on their deepest sympathy to his wife, Helayna, and his son Joey and daughter Phoebe, as well as his family and friends.”
Race organisers announced on Thursday that the Sidecar class would be suspended for the remainder of the 2026 Isle of Man TT Races, following an incident involving a Sidecar team during the third Qualifying Session.
A statement read: “The Race Organisation initiated an immediate technical and operational review to assess the circumstances surrounding the incident and the continued participation of the Sidecar class at the event. Following that review, in conjunction with the Event Promoter, a decision has been taken to suspend the Sidecar class for the remainder of the 2026 Isle of Man TT Races.”
It added: “We recognise the long-standing history of Sidecar racing at the TT, together with the commitment of the competitors, teams and supporters involved in the class. This decision has not been taken lightly. However, the safety of competitors, spectators, marshals, officials and all those involved in the event must remain the priority.”
The Isle of Man TT races, an annual two-week festival, is widely regarded as the “most dangerous” event in motorsport. No rider deaths were recorded in 2025, but six competitors died over the course of the festival in 2022, the highest number of casualties at a single event in more than 50 years.
