Man Utd quietly announce £31m transfer in major boost for Michael Carrick | Football | Sport

Manchester United have quietly confirmed their first transfer of the summer window in a deal worth around £31million. Michael Carrick will be hoping for a productive summer as he gears up for his first full campaign in charge of the Red Devils. He was handed the permanent manager’s job after impressing on an interim basis, having led United into the Premier League’s top five.

However, it won’t mark United’s first deal of the summer, with Rasmus Hojlund having already left the club to join Napoli on a permanent basis.

The forward struggled to impose himself during his time in England and was loaned to the Italian giants at the start of last season.

Included in the deal was a clause that would see him remain at Napoli on a full-time basis, should they qualify for the Champions League.

That clause was activated when they finished second in Serie A to book their place at Europe’s top table for the 2026/27 campaign.

The move was quietly confirmed when United released their third quarter financial results on Thursday night. They announced they had received £31.36m for a player sale, which is assumed to be Hojlund.

It comes weeks after the Dane wrote an emotional message to Red Devils supporters on social media, addressing his exit and looking back on his spell at Old Trafford.

He said: “We now secured Champions League with Napoli, which means because of my contract I’m now officially a Napoli player and I’m saying goodbye to Manchester United.

“That feels weird, because for the past year I already feel like a Napoli player. The way you fans supported me, made me feel like home and let me find my confidence again is something I’m so grateful for.

“To say goodbye to Manchester United is something that kinda feels emotional too. My childhood dream came true by playing at Old Trafford in a red jersey.

“So the goal today symbolises a new confident start, in which I will give everything for the time ahead to Napoli, and a thank you to all the fans, players and staff of Manchester United who made the dream I had as a kid come true.
