Pep Guardiola’s stance on managing England after David Beckham’s incredible offer | Football | Sport

Pep Guardiola is set to reject a remarkable approach from Sir David Beckham to take charge as the new Inter Miami manager, but would be open to managing England one day. David Beckham, who co-owns the MLS outfit, has identified Guardiola as his prime target to succeed Javier Mascherano, who stepped down last month.

Beckham is well aware that persuading Guardiola to join his club would represent a monumental coup for both Inter and the MLS as a whole. It would also see the Spaniard reunited with Lionel Messi, who played under him at Barcelona, not to mention hand a huge boost to Inter’s marketing appeal. However, Guardiola has made it abundantly clear that Beckham is fighting a losing battle in his efforts to coax him into an immediate return to the dugout.

Guardiola stepped down as Manchester City manager at the end of the season, bringing the curtain down on a decade of unprecedented success at the Etihad.

He is firmly intent on taking a break from football, dedicating time to his family and restoring his enthusiasm for the game.

Inter’s hierarchy would have relished the opportunity to hold face-to-face talks with Guardiola during the World Cup.

However, it is understood that Guardiola has no intention of travelling to the tournament this summer, but has confided in those closest to him that he envisages his next managerial role being at international level.

His newfound availability has not gone unnoticed at the Football Association, who were keen to appoint Guardiola as England’s next manager following Gareth Southgate‘s resignation in 2024, though reaching an agreement proved unrealistic at the time.

He has remained firmly on their shortlist, however, and would be the outstanding candidate to succeed Thomas Tuchel when the time comes.

Tuchel has agreed terms to guide England through to Euro 2028, but understands his position will be under threat if his Three Lions disappoint at this summer’s World Cup.

Guardiola, meanwhile, is believed to find the England job attractive and would give serious thought to taking it on if the opportunity arose in future.
