Arsenal can sell eight stars to raise funds for Rogers and Alvarez | Football | Sport
Up to eight Arsenal players could be offloaded as the Gunners prepare to make a significant impact in the summer transfer window. Manager Mikel Arteta has set his sights on Morgan Rogers and Julian Alvarez as he looks to build upon Arsenal’s Premier League title triumph.
However, neither Aston Villa playmaker Rogers nor Atletico Madrid striker Alvarez will come at a bargain price, with both men attracting considerable interest. Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are also chasing Rogers, 23, while Barcelona have already tabled an £87million offer for 26-year-old Alvarez, which was promptly knocked back by Atletico.
Both players could spark fierce bidding wars, which is precisely why Arsenal will need substantial funds available should they wish to secure the duo. Two obvious candidates for the exit door are Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson, both of whom have spent the past couple of seasons away on loan.
Arsenal chiefs will also listen to offers for Christian Norgaard, who only joined a year ago, and Ben White. There’s also uncertainty over the future of Ethan Nwaneri, who spent the second half of the season on loan at French giants Marseille.
Furthermore, the trio of Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are all out of contract in June 2027, meaning this could represent Arsenal’s last opportunity to recoup a fee. Arteta brought in a host of new attackers last summer, yet his squad have continued to struggle to carve out chances in crucial matches, such as Saturday’s Champions League final defeat to PSG.
Rogers registered 11 assists across all competitions for Villa, one of which came alongside a goal in the Europa League final. The England international played a pivotal role in Unai Emery’s side securing a commanding 3-0 victory.
The report further states that Rogers would be receptive to a move to Arsenal. There has also been speculation that Villa may be compelled to sanction his departure to comply with UEFA’s financial regulations.
Arsenal’s primary transfer target is Alvarez, though they face fierce competition from Barcelona, who are considering tabling a fresh bid. A potential alternative to the Argentine would be Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi.
At just 19 years of age, Kroupi recently broke the record for the most goals in a debut Premier League season for a teenager, finding the net 13 times as Bournemouth finished sixth. His strike against Manchester City last month effectively handed Arsenal the title.
Elsewhere, Arsenal are amongst a number of clubs chasing 16-year-old Leicester wonderkid Jeremy Monga, with a tribunal potentially required to settle the fee for his signature.
