UK bathroom firm plunges into administration – in business since 1992 | UK | News

A British bathroom company has plunged into administration and ceased trading. The firm, which was founded in 1992, manufactured doors and cabinets for bathrooms, as well as kitchens and bedrooms.

Humber Doors Ltd, which traded as Summerbridge, was founded in Anlaby, East Yorkshire, and operated from an 80,000 sq ft facility. They provided doors and cabinets to a number of clients, ranging from developers and commercial properties to caravans and lodges. However, John Allan Carpenter and Christopher Benjamin Barrett, both of Dow Schofield Watts Business Recovery LLP, were appointed joint administrators of the company on Wednesday, May 27.

Summerbridge has now ceased trading with the insolvency process underway. According to Hull Live, staff members have been sent a letter informing them that they have been made redundant.

The letter states: “I write to inform you that a decision has been taken for the company to cease to trade and be placed into an Insolvency process. As a consequence, your contract of employment is terminated with immediate effect and today will be your last day worked. Dow Schofield Watts Business Recovery LLP has been instructed to assist the director with placing the company into administration.”

The latest company accounts show Summerbridge owed creditors around £1.8 million at the end of February 2025 – up from £1.4 million the year before. They also show the company employed 100 members of staff that year.

Meanwhile, the company website states: “Summerbridge doors and cabinets are crafted in our 80,000 sq ft East Yorkshire facility, we are the supplier of choice to many different markets, supplying a wide variety of products from bathroom furniture to doors for holiday homes.”

It adds: “We supply many contractors and developers with rigid kitchen, bedroom & bathroom furniture for residential new build, refurbishment, hotels, social housing schemes and student accommodation.”

It continues: “Whether your project is large or small scale, our Hull facility is a flexible manufacturing base so if it’s a special size you require we can make it to order.”
