UK classic car company falls into liquidation – in business since 1999

A UK classic car company has plunged into liquidation in another major blow to the UK motoring industry. Awesome Classic and Custom, historic vehicle upholstery specialists based in Cambridgeshire, have fallen into difficulty after 27 years. There is no news about any job cuts at this stage.

According to the London Gazette, the classic car company appointed liquidators on May 29, with the statement posted in the early hours of June 3. David Gerard Kirk has been appointed the liquidator, while a Resolution for Winding-Up order and Notice to Creditors were also published online. The company has previously worked on some prestine historics such as the Bentley MKVI and Porsche 911 Super Sport.

The statement read: “Creditors are required to prove their debts on or before 30 June 2026 by sending full details of their claims to the Liquidators at Kirks, 5 Barnfield Crescent, Exeter, EX1 1QT.

“Creditors must also, if so requested by the Liquidators, provide such further details or produce such documentary evidence as may appear to the Liquidators to be necessary.”

Awesome Classic and Custom are based on Fen Road, Pidley in Cambridgeshire, around 20 minutes outside of Huntingdon. The business specialises in car interiors, with their team on hand to fix and restyle the upholstery on historic machines.

The company said they “proudly work with a wide range of classic, custom, vintage, sports, and kit car owners”, ensuring that any style of vehicle receives an expert touch. The firm said they work with all interior aspects of vehicles, including armrests, headrests and centre consoles, to more bespoke parts.

The company can completely transform vehicle dashboards with a range of unique designs from Alcantara, leather or faux leather. The business also has a leather repair and care centre, promising to fix up any jaded and worn leather interiors.

The company’s leather repair specialists say they will “clean and soften cracked and scratched surfaces” before adding new colours.

Awesome Classic and Custom doesn’t just work with cars, with the business also fitting new upholstery for campervans and motorhomes.
