World War 2 thriller starring James Bond legend is streaming for a limited time | Films | Entertainment
Daniel Craig was James Bond from 2006-2021 and occasionally did the odd movie on the side. One of the most notable was in 2008 when he starred in World War 2 thriller Defiance.
Set during Nazi Germany’s occupation of Belarus, the film follows four Jewish brothers who flee to the forest to escape the Holocaust after their parents are murdered. Once there, they discover fellow refugees hiding out and band together to outwit the Germans hunting them.
The screenplay is based on Nechama Tec’s 1993 book of the same name about the Jewish brothers who saved and recruited Jews during World War 2. The film co-stars Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell and George MacKay as the other brothers. The shoot took place just over the Belarusian border in Lithuania, some 150 km from the actual sites. Meanwhile, some local extras were descendants of Jews rescued by the partisans.
Defiance is streaming on BBC iPlayer for the next 29 days.
