United ‘contact’ with next signing
Manchester United could build on their £38.8million agreement to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson with the addition of West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils have reached an agreement on the overall package for the Brazilian who may welcome the Hammers star as his new team-mate.
An ESPN report suggests United have already approached the relegated club regarding a potential deal for the 21-year-old. West Ham could be forced into a string of player sales with relegation forecast to set the club back £100m. According to The Times, they have slapped an £80m price tag on Fernandes.
Arsenal have also been linked with a swoop to sign the Portugal international, who made a strong impression during his debut campaign at the London Stadium.
Missing out on England’s World Cup squad won’t dampen Harry Maguire’s summer, as the Manchester United defender is set to feature on The Rest is Football podcast during the tournament, according to The Athletic.
The 33-year-old was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man squad, representing the second successive international tournament he has failed to feature in, having been ruled out of Euro 2024 through injury.
Maguire is anticipated to be among numerous guests set to feature on the hugely popular podcast fronted by Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards. The former England strikers will be based in a studio overlooking New York’s Times Square for 40 episodes.
