Scary Monaco Grand Prix incident as man very nearly struck by car mid-race | F1 | Sport
Motorsport fans were left with their hearts in their mouths when a car narrowly avoided crashing into a man at the Formula Two race in Monaco. The warm-up act to the F1 main event was taking place on the streets of the principality, but disaster almost struck.
The television cameras captured a man in a white shirt, trousers and sunglasses running across the track in Monaco. It took place during the penultimate lap, with Hitech driver Colton Herta coming close to hitting him.
The American was just ahead of Nicolas Varrone and Joshua Durksen, which could’ve been even more dangerous if Herta had been forced to slam the brakes. Thankfully, there were no injuries and the individual in question ran off unscathed.
@cozierpanda wants to see action taken: “That guy should be banned from race tracks forever. What an idiot.”
Unsurprisingly, motorsport fans were left fuming with the incident. @WillV6F1 wrote: “Organisers will be in trouble too. The track is supposed to be secure.”
@OcBen kept said: “That’s disgraceful. Should not be possible for this to happen. Race organisers have to ensure no one is on the track whilst cars are racing.”
@KenworthyCK fears fo the worst: “It’s only a matter of time in Monaco. The track workers are the worst; all that posing, standing super-close to exposed barriers. It’s all bravado and one day somebody will get clipped on live TV.”
Meanwhile, Alex Brundle, who was on commentary for the race, said: “We need to be working out how this happened. :-/.”
None of the drivers involved finished in the points, with Nikola Tsolov having emerged victorious from the race in Monaco. Much like the Formula One race, strategy is largely focused on pit stop timing and tyre management. The decisive moment came in the closing laps when the leaders completed their mandatory pit stops, with Tsolov finding himself behind Rafael Camara, but the latter fell into the runoff area and being forced to retire from the race.
Tsolov took the lead and was able to hold on to take the chequered flag, securing his third victory of the season.
