Everything you need to know

  • Max Verstappen stalled at the start line and was last by the time he got going. An engine issue for the Dutchman meant he returned to the pit at the end of the opening lap, bringing his short time on the track in Monaco to a close.
  • Cadillac’s Sergio Perez was hit by a drive-through penalty after being out of position at the start. He was in Gabriel Bortoleto’s grid box.

  • Valtteri Bottas suffered the second retirement of the race as the Cadillac driver suffered a brake issue. It was an ongoing problem for the team over the weekend.

  • Oliver Bearman and Haas was the next driver to drop out of the race. The Brit lasted 32 laps before being forced to abandon his weekend.
  • Lewis Hamilton was punished for speeding in the pit lane. He received a five-second penalty.

  • McLaren‘s Lando Norris couldn’t make it past lap 46 as he was forced to retire. He reported no power and no battery, with the garage suggesting it could see a power unit issue.
  • Mercedes man George Russell was next to be hit for speeding in the pit lane and also received a five-second time penalty.

  • Franco Colapinto was the next to fall foul of speeding in the pit lane. It was another five-second penalty.
  • Pierre Gasly was then caught speeding in the pit lane for Alpine. A five-second penalty followed.

  • McLaren star Oscar Piastri was next to join the party, speeding in the pit lane. A five-second time penalty was awarded there too.

  • Lance Stroll crashed his Aston Martin at the final corner and could not finish the race after 59 laps. The safety car was deployed.

  • Charles Leclerc was next out and suffered the same fate as Stroll. The Ferrari ace’s crash seemed to be contributed to by track degradation as the race was then red-flagged.
  • Pierre Gasly was punished for breaking the speed limit in the pit lane once again. It was another five-second penalty.

  • Russell picked up a drive-through penalty for failing to serve his earlier penalty correctly. The punishment ensured he was out of the points in Monte Carlo.
  • After a long pause following Leclerc’s race exit, the restart got underway with another retirement. Williams’ Carlos Sainz got clipped during a packed hairpin before getting clipped a second time by Colapinto to spin him around.
  • Nico Hulkenberg picked up a 10-second penalty for hitting Sainz. That saw Sergio Perez promoted to earn Cadillac their first point in Formula 1
  • Following the race, Perez was robbed of that point after being awarded a 10-second penalty for being outside of his starting box at the race’s restart.
