‘Real’ reason Princess Kate never removes her coats in public revealed | Royal | News

The Princess of Wales is known for her impeccable tailoring in her sartorial choices for various engagements. Princess Catherine has acquired quite a fashion following ever since her relationship with Prince William became public, with the royal already having the “Kate effect” following the announcement of their engagement in 2010.

The future Queen has always chosen elegant, timeless pieces, mixing and matching high-street favourites with high couture classics. Her love for floral fascinators and beautiful gowns, along with her overall poise, makes royal fans go wild whenever she makes a new appearance. But there is one piece of clothing that most fans go wild for when it comes to Catherine’s fashion – her impeccably tailored blazers and coats.

The princess opts for a structured coat or blazer no matter the time of year, and according to royal style experts, there is a reason why.

A source told Radar Online: “People often assume [Catherine’s] coats are simply a personal style preference, but there’s a lot more to it than that. Within the royal household, appearance is carefully considered, and official engagements come with certain expectations.

“A senior royal is expected to maintain a polished, consistent image. The coat becomes a symbol of discipline and professionalism as much as a fashion statement.”

Another source added: “[Catherine] has spent years refining her public image around those expectations and understands exactly what is required of her when she steps out on behalf of the Crown.”

Last year, a Kensington Palace spokesperson made headlines after saying they would not release details of Catherine’s wardrobe when she attends royal engagements, in a bid to keep the focus on her causes rather than her fashion.

A Kensington Palace Spokesperson said: “Over the last week, I have received numerous questions about a story regarding The Princess of Wales’s clothing and how Kensington Palace shares information about her outfits.

“To clarify, the comments that appeared in the article were from me, not The Princess of Wales. The comments that were reported should not be directly attributed to The Princess of Wales.

“To be clear, there has been no change in our approach to sharing information about Her Royal Highness’s clothing.”

The statement came after a Palace source at the time told the Times: “There is an absolute feeling that it [the public work] is not about what the princess is wearing.

“She wants the focus to be on the really important issues, the people and the causes she is spotlighting.

“There will always be an appreciation of what the princess is wearing from some of the public and she gets that.

“But do we need to be officially always saying what she is wearing? No. The style is there but it’s about the substance.”
