Nationwide is sending a free £100 payment to its current account customers this month as part of its ‘Fairer Share’ scheme, with millions in line for the bonus.

A total of £4.4million will be paid out to 4.4 million eligible customers in June after the building society announced profits of £2 billion for the year up to March 31, 2026. This year marks the fourth year in a row that Nationwide has dished out the one-off bonus, having paid out a total of £400million to four million eligible customers in 2025. The Fairer Share programme – which has paid out over £1.5billion to eligible members since 2023 – was set up to reward customers who bank with the building society, allowing them to share some of the profits – but only if they meet certain criteria.

While more than four million Nationwide customers will see the £100 bonus paid into their accounts in June, not all customers will be eligible, as was the case in previous years.

Unfortunately not all Nationwide customers will be eligible for the £100 payment, as was the case in previous years.

Nationwide has confirmed that to be eligible for the £100 Fairer Share payment in June, you must:

  • Have had an open Nationwide current account on March 31, 2026, plus either qualifying savings or a qualifying mortgage

  • Have used your current account within the first three months of the year, from January to March

  • Have had at least £100 in savings with Nationwide at the end of any day in March 2026, or owed at least £100 on a Nationwide mortgage on March 31, 2026

  • Confirming the qualifying criteria for this year’s £100 bonus payment, Nationwide said: “You must be a member of Nationwide with a qualifying current account, plus either qualifying savings or a qualifying mortgage. And you need to have met these criteria when we last checked on 31 March this year.

“You will have had qualifying savings if you had at least £100 in total in one or more personal savings accounts or cash ISAs with Nationwide at the end of any day in March 2026.

“To be a qualifying mortgage, you must have owed us at least £100 on your Nationwide residential mortgage on 31 March 2026.”

Nationwide customers that don’t meet the above criteria will not be eligible to receive the £100 bonus payment in June.

Virgin Money customers who have become a member of Nationwide as a result of the transfer in April could be eligible for a Fairer Share payment in 2027, which will include qualifying Virgin Money accounts, but won’t be eligible for the payment this year.

For those who do qualify, Nationwide said the money will be paid directly into your current account between June 10 and June 30, 2026, and will appear on bank statements as ‘Nationwide Fairer Share Payment’.

If you close your account before the £100 is paid, and you don’t have another Nationwide current account, you won’t be eligible for the reward.

The building society added: “We plan to make the payment of £100 to all eligible members between 10 June 2026 and 30 June 2026.

“We will pay the money into your Nationwide current account by electronic transfer. If you hold more than one current account with us, we may pay the money into any of those accounts.

“We will pay the money into an account in your sole name if you have one and will pay it into a joint account if you do not. The payment will appear on your current account statement as Nationwide Fairer Share Payment.

“We will not make the payment in any other way and if you do not have an open Nationwide current account when we try to make the payment, you will not be eligible to receive it. We will not make the payment into a current account held with Nationwide Building Society under a different trading name, such as Virgin Money or Clydesdale.”
