Everything stolen in England World Cup raid as men charged over theft | Football | Sport
A comprehensive list of items allegedly stolen from an England team van in the build-up to the World Cup has been released by prosecutors in America. Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident.
It has now been confirmed that both have been charged. Both individuals are facing one count each of Receiving Stolen Property.
According to reports, the equipment went missing as the England squad prepared to travel from their training camp in West Palm Beach to their World Cup base in Kansas City, leaving England’s backroom staff stunned when the kit failed to arrive at its destination.
It is claimed that all stolen items have since been recovered ahead of England’s opening group fixture against Croatia on Thursday night, with further group stage clashes against Ghana and Panama following.
The full inventory of allegedly stolen goods has been confirmed in an official press release issued by the Jackson County Prosecutor. In total, there are 14 categories comprising approximately 26 items, with a combined estimated value of around $18,000 (£14,500).
The full list is as follows:
“Jackson County will not tolerate any criminal activity that targets World Cup visitors, including the international teams that have traveled here to compete,” prosecutor Melesa Johnson said.
“We thank the Kansas City Police Department and our on-call attorneys for their quick work investigating this incident and filing charges immediately. Our office is committed to holding these individuals accountable.”
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas added: “I am grateful for the quick work of the Kansas City Police Department and the Prosecutor’s Office in resolving an investigation across several states, helping crime victims recover goods stolen in transit, and ensuring the accused will face prosecution.
“Kansas City’s public safety leadership will continue to ensure all are safe and offenders will be held accountable swiftly for any misconduct.”
The squad have since touched down in Kansas City, where they were given a rapturous welcome from locals. When asked about the stolen items, goalkeeper Dean Henderson said: “My boots?”.
“I’ve got them on my feet so it’s all good. We got them all back so it’s nice.”
