A cleaner has shared how homeowners can banish ‘musty’ odours from their kitchen for good. The method is designed to prevent smelly sinks that cause a stink in kitchens, using a few items often found in cupboards.
The tip was recommended on TikTok by Jason Cleans (@Jason.cleans), a professional cleaner, content creator, and founder of Enhanced Cleaning. He’s amassed a following on social media, where he regularly shares cleaning hacks for his 93k followers. In one video, Jason shared a cleaning solution for musty kitchens.
The caption said: “If your house is clean but has a lingering odour you can’t seem to get rid of, watch this!” In the video, Jason told viewers: “If you have a clean house but there’s a smell you can’t seem to get rid of, this may be the culprit. Kitchen sinks are notorious for being the source of musty smells.”
Jason explained: “Over time, the sink drain collects soap scum, food residue, hair, moisture, you name it, and it’s perfect conditions for mould and bacteria to grow. And all of that odour just rises straight back up into your home.”
Fortunately, he said there’s a solution that helps homes smell fresh. “So in addition to giving your sink a regular scrub, here’s something you can do to really neutralise that odour once and for all. Simply pour some boiling water slowly down the drain. This melts the grease, loosens the soap scum and softens the buildup,” Jason added.
“Then you can just tip half a cup of baking soda down the drain, follow it up with one cup of white vinegar, let it fizz for around 10 to 15 minutes and then flush one more time with boiling water. Do that around once a month and enjoy a fresher feeling home.”
Jason’s method could be ideal for homeowners looking for a cheap, quick solution, especially since it uses items that are typically found in most kitchen cupboards. Alternatively, most retailers sell drain cleaning products.
For instance, Amazon sells HG Drain Odour Remover for £10.99. The description claims: “Effectively cleans and de-odourises smelly kitchen or bathroom drains in just 30 minutes, leaving them smelling fresh again. For sinks, drains, toilets and shower trays: Drains can become smelly because of deposits on their walls. Fortunately, this drain odour eliminator removes the deposits that cause the smell.”
One happy customer said: “After using this HG drain odour remover for over six months, it continues to work just as promised. It helps keep my sink and shower drains smelling fresh and clear, and the cleaning action feels effective without harsh fumes. I use it regularly, and it cuts through buildup and odours noticeably.
“The bottle is easy to use and lasts a long time, so it’s practical for ongoing maintenance.” Someone else thought: “Best product for smelly drains! This really works well and leaves a pleasant smell for weeks!”
