The 2026 Formula 1 season has delivered no shortage of drama, and the recent Barcelona Grand Prix at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya provided memorable moments of its own. Lewis Hamilton took the chequered flag in first place – his first victory as a Ferrari driver and part of a British one-two-three. Hamilton occupies second spot in the drivers’ championship following his triumph, although Kimi Antonelli continues to lead the way. Lando Norris, the defending champion, finds himself down in fifth despite claiming a podium finish at the weekend.

Change to the Barcelona GP result
Race-winner Hamilton faced investigation over a possible infringement of regulations concerning yellow flags at the Barcelona Grand Prix but was eventually given the all-clear. However, fellow competitor Franco Colapinto wasn’t quite so fortunate after violating the same regulations.
Colapinto crossed the line eighth, but this was revised following his sanction. His eventual classification of 10th means he collects one point instead of the initial four he would have secured, leaving him 12th in the overall.
“The driver of Car 43 [Colapinto] slightly reduced speed before entering the single yellow flag zone, but did not discernibly reduce speed in the relevant yellow flag sector,” stewards explained. “The stewards acknowledge that the driver reacted to the yellow flag but do not consider the reaction to be sufficient to comply with the regulations. Therefore, a penalty on the lower end of the applicable scale of penalties is imposed.”
Hamilton’s Ferrari admission
Lewis Hamilton has spoken candidly about the upheaval his arrival caused within the Ferrari system. He finally secured his maiden victory for the legendary team at the 31st attempt and currently occupies second position in the drivers’ championship while team-mate Charles Leclerc sits fourth.
“Me coming was a big shock to the system because I am very, very vocal,” Hamilton said of his impact on the Scuderia. “If I see something that I don’t think is right, or I push very, very hard, that’s at the core of who I am, and I’m relentless with it. And I think it’s not easy to be on the receiving end of that when you’re also juggling a whole organisation, you know, and a culture that in its own is set in a certain way.”
Team principal Frederic Vasseur declined to take credit for Hamilton’s improved performances this campaign. “It’s more Lewis himself,” Vasseur said. “He was able to come back after a tough moment of weekends. He was able to come back and do a full reset.
“To continue to push, to continue to come at the factory on Tuesday morning. This commitment is a huge support. Coming from a world champion, it’s even more, I would say. It was also a huge motivation for everybody at the factory.”
