Vaseline is a remarkable product that is frequently overlooked in favour of pricier alternatives that may not actually perform any better.
Huda Kattan, celebrated for her hugely successful makeup and fragrance empires, reposted a reel by @serenalakkiss, revealing that Vaseline offers far more than simply softening lips.
The skin protectant can serve a multitude of purposes in your beauty routine, which is precisely why so many consider it an essential wonder product.
At just £2, it’s incredibly versatile and well worth a try. Huda added: “One little jar, four beauty hacks […] ways to get more out of your Vaseline.”
Before sharing the tips, the beauty guru also added that results can vary from person to person. She explained: “Disclaimer: These are popular beauty hacks and may not work for everyone. Always patch test first, especially if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin”.
1. Removing blackheads
Serena revealed that applying Vaseline to your nose, covering it with cling film and leaving it in place makes blackheads considerably easier to remove.
The Vaseline and cling film technique is a viral skincare hack that works by loosening and softening debris within your pores. It functions as a moisture barrier, trapping hydration and softening hardened sebum, making extractions far more straightforward.
Should you attempt this method, be sure to avoid using an overly firm tool, as this could damage your skin and potentially cause further issues.
2. Growing your eyelashes and eyebrows
Serena demonstrated applying Vaseline to both her lashes and brows, claiming it can actively encourage growth.
Healthline notes, however, that as an occlusive, Vaseline traps moisture, rendering existing hairs softer, shinier, and less susceptible to breakage, which gives the appearance of fuller hair.
That said, it contains no active ingredients that stimulate hair follicles. Yet for many, the illusion of thickness is sufficient reason to give it a go.
Just make sure you do a patch test before putting the product on your face. You should also use Vaseline sparingly and avoid getting it directly inside your eyes.
3. Making perfume last longer
Serena revealed that dabbing a small amount of Vaseline onto your wrists can help your fragrance go the distance. This creates an occlusive barrier that locks the scent onto your skin, slowing down evaporation and making your perfume last hours longer.
Simply rub a tiny amount of petroleum jelly onto areas where your body naturally radiates heat, such as the wrists, neck, inner elbows, and the back of the ears.
Spritz your perfume directly onto the Vaseline and avoid rubbing your wrists together, as this breaks down the fragrance molecules. Instead, gently tap your skin to help the perfume absorb naturally.
In the comments section, one user noted that her perfume lasts “all day” when she employs this technique, urging others to give it a whirl if they find themselves without 10ml of their favourite scent to pop in their handbag.
