Couple adopt rescue labrador puppy but get big surprise
Documenting their journey on Instagram via @buffy.the.egg.slayer, the owners shared Buffy’s initial shelter photograph alongside a post detailing their first impressions when they encountered her. Yet, as the weeks went by and Buffy adapted to her new surroundings, her looks started to transform, and it quickly became apparent that things weren’t quite as they had first appeared.
Her previously-droopy ears slowly began to stand erect, with one ear frequently pointing upwards – a characteristic not commonly linked with labradors. Her unique pink nose also grew more prominent as she aged, making it progressively evident that she wasn’t the breed they had initially envisaged.
As Buffy developed, it became clear she was worlds apart from the labrador puppy they believed they had rehomed. The caption on the video reads: “Safe to say she wasn’t a Lab…”
However, a closer inspection of her adoption paperwork suggested the shelter may have been dropping hints all along. Rather than being registered as a labrador, Buffy had simply been listed as a “mongrel” — a term widely used to describe dogs of mixed or unknown heritage.
Despite the surprising transformation, her owners insist they wouldn’t change a single thing and love her all the same. Far from feeling let down, they say Buffy’s quirky features and one-of-a-kind appearance have only made her all the more endearing.
The clip concludes with the message: “Wouldn’t change a thing.” Responding to the video, one user wrote: “He looks like every children’s drawing of a dog brought to life.”
Another chimed in: “He looks so human, it’s uncanny almost.” While a third quipped: “That’s the most ‘dog’ looking dog I’ve ever seen, I think. Doesn’t get any doggier than this.”
