World Cup fan issues statement about her breasts after going viral on social media | Football | Sport
A former mayor has released a statement after World Cup fans both in attendance and on social media found themselves unable to stop staring at her chest. Sandra Cuevas, a former mayor of the Mexico City borough of Cuauhtemoc, has been cheering on her nation on home soil.
She has been in high spirits as victories against South Africa and South Korea have already secured Mexico‘s place in the World Cup knockout stages. Cuevas has been spotted in the stands, on the streets and in fan zones, singing her team’s praises and mixing with supporters from across the globe. What many of them appeared to share was an admiration for her notably large breasts, which have attracted considerable attention both at the tournament and across social media, so much so that the 40-year-old felt compelled to release a statement online.
Following comparisons to iconic model Mar Castro, affectionately known as “Chiquitibum” during the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, Cuevas responded to those drawing the likeness.
Happily embracing the compliment, she said: “The Chiquitibum… well, guys, what can I do, I can’t just take them off. They had already nicknamed me that in 1986 and it amuses me, I like it.
“I don’t take it as an attack, there will be those who think that way and take it in a derogatory way, but that’s how we Mexicans are.”
Cuevas has undoubtedly been relishing her experience at the tournament thus far.
She appears to be bringing good fortune to El Tri, who sit among just three nations to have already secured progression to the knockout stages.
Despite being a widely admired politician, she has responded to remarks about her eye-catching attire with a sense of humour.
She had already established her credentials in the political arena during her tenure with the Party of the Democratic Revolution.
Beyond her work with that party, she is also well acquainted with the National Action Party and Institutional Revolutionary Party, having witnessed their collaboration while in coalition. Her political career remains active.
Cuevas currently serves as a Mexico City coordinator for the Mexico Nuevo political movement, which is seeking official recognition to become a registered political party.
Given her country’s impressive showing in the tournament, it remains unclear how much time she has been able to dedicate to her professional duties.
Mexico have reached the World Cup quarter-finals on just two occasions and will be hoping for another extended run in the competition.
