France confirms first Ebola case as huge outbreak sparks major ’emergency’ | World | News

France has confirmed its first case of Ebola after a doctor returning from the Democratic Republic of Congo tested positive. The French Health Ministry reported that the doctor had recently returned from a humanitarian mission. The patient has been placed in isolation, and authorities are conducting contact tracing.

The ministry also emphasised that the risk to the wider European population remains low. Congo’s Ebola outbreak, which has infected more than 1,000 people and killed 267, has had the largest number of confirmed cases within the first month of any episode of the disease, the World Health Organisation has said.

A‌ccording to the latest government released on Tuesday, the number of ‌confirmed Ebola cases in the DRC has increased to 1,094, including 277 deaths.
