Two huge earthquakes have hit in Venezuela, triggering a tsunami alert, with people forced to evacuate their homes.

A 7.1 magnitude erathquake was followed by a 7.5 magnitude quake, causing chaos in the capital of Caracas ​on ​Wednesday ⁠afternoon, as several shakes could be felt.

Buildings have collapsed, with damage to a major airport, with one local stating that have “never felt anything so strong”.

Search operations are underway as rescuers look for victims in the rubble.

With a tsunami warning now in place, people located in threatened coastal areas have been warned to stay alert and follow instructions from national authorities.

The first wave is expected at roughly 10.30pm local time.
