At least two people have died in a horror fire ripping through a hospital in Germany. The fire broke out at a clinic in Ludwigslust this morning, July 2. At least two patients have died, and more than 30 were reported injuries, although a police spokesperson said none of them were reported to be in critical condition.

The fire is believed to have started at around 4.28am local time in a patient’s room on the upper floor of the building also housing the radiology department, and to have spread to the roof of the building.

The hospital was evacuated, and patients were wheeled out of the building.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

The hospital counts a total of 160 beds. As many as 82 patients were in the building when the fire broke out, according to German newspaper Bild.

The fire service remains at the scene, but the fire has been brought under control.

Police have cordoned off the area, and motorists were told to avoid the area. Police said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
