Horror as woman gang-raped in forest while collecting wood – 11 arrested | World | News
A woman was allegedly gang raped while collecting firewood in a forest, with police arresting 11 people as part of their investigation. The 40-year-old woman was in a forest in Jamner taluka, Jalgaon district, Maharashtra, India, on June 2 when the alleged attack took place.
According to police, she had been collecting firewood with a male friend when they were confronted by a group of men who were known to them. Officers allege the group threatened the pair before two of the suspects sexually assaulted the woman.
Police also said other members of the group recorded the alleged attack on video while threatening the man who was with her.
The woman did not immediately report the incident to police because she had been intimidated, officers said.
However, the case came to light after the video allegedly began circulating on social media on or around June 25.
A formal complaint was then lodged at Fattepur Police Station.
Police have named 15 suspects in connection with the case.
According to officials, 11 adults have now been arrested, while three minors have also been detained.
The adult suspects, who are all reportedly under the age of 30 and work as labourers, were remanded into police custody by a local court until July 4.
Police said the accused have been booked under Section 70(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (gang rape), Section 77 relating to voyeurism, as well as relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act 2000 over the alleged recording and circulation of the video.
