New England vs Mexico kick-off time ‘decided’ as BBC dealt huge Wimbledon headache | Tennis | Sport

Wimbledon may no longer be guaranteed prime viewing on the BBC on Sunday night as England’s clash with Mexico at the World Cup has been given a new kick-off time, according to reports. The last-16 tie is scheduled to get underway at 1am (BST) on Monday morning.

However, severe thunderstoms are expected in Mexico City so the match will be moved to Sunday 7pm (BST), claim local reports in Mexico. The BBC are the UK broadcasters for this England match so they are expected to bump Wimbledon off BBC 1 to make room for their football coverage.

It comes as a big blow for Wimbledon with most of the top players due to play on Sunday. Weekend evenings are seen as the prime viewing slots and the biggest names usually feature here. But tournament organisers may have to re-think their scheduling.

The revamped scheduling could come as good news to Djokovic, who moaned about playing his first two matches under the roof.

He was given the opening slot in the third round win over Arthur Rinderknech and Wimbledon may do so again to try and maximise their audiance.
