Max Verstappen in X-rated team radio rant as he crashes out of British Grand Prix | F1 | Sport

Max Verstappen was left furious after being forced to retire from the British Grand Prix following a late crash. The four-time world champion was only a few laps away from a fifth-placed finish at Silverstone, but a lapse in concentration ruined his hopes of completing the race.

Verstappen was coming into Stowe when he lost the rear end of his car and was unable to regain control, skidding into the gravel as a result. Unfortunately for the Dutchman, he couldn’t get it going again and was forced to retire at the home of British racing for the first time since 2021.

He was clearly furious in the heat of the moment, saying over team radio: “I hate this f****** car, f****** unbelievable.”

The safety car was deployed as a result of Verstappen’s crash, with Charles Leclerc leading Ferrari team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton pitted for a new set of soft tyres, with Ferrari clearly expecting the race to get back underway before the chequered flag, which saw him slip to third behind George Russell.

However, the safety car remained out for the rest of the contest, prompting a chorus of boos from those in the grandstands at Silverstone before Leclerc took the chequered flag.

Just moments before Verstappen went off the circuit, Kimi Antonelli ran into trouble when his car slowed down unexpectedly.

He was set to challenge for victory but was forced to pit for emergency repairs, although he continued to limp around the circuit.

Antonelli was also handed a five-second penalty for repeatedly exceeding track limits as he attempted to wrestle his stricken Mercedes.

He ended up finishing in 16th place, scoring no points, in a major blow to his hopes of winning the Drivers’ Championship.

Antonelli remains at the top of the standings but is now only 25 points ahead of Russell, with Hamilton trailing the Italian teenager by 32 points.
