Ederson to Man Utd latest with fears deal has collapsed after Brazil exit | Football | Sport

Ederson remains on course to complete his move to Manchester United, despite recent reports suggesting the transfer had collapsed. The Atalanta midfielder is all but a Red Devil, though neither the club nor his representatives have yet made an official announcement. A deal worth £35million plus £3.8m in add-ons has been agreed with the Italian side for the Brazilian international.

Personal terms have likewise been settled, with the player set to put pen to paper on a four-year contract once the transfer is finalised. Rumours circulated recently claiming the Ederson deal had fallen through. Express Sport can confirm this is not the case. The original agreement remains firmly intact and Ederson is still expected to arrive at Old Trafford. The delay in any formal announcement is due to his involvement at the World Cup with Brazil.

The South American has yet to undergo a medical, which typically represents one of the final stages of any transfer. He is unable to complete this formality with United until he returns from the tournament.

His medical could now be completed sooner than anticipated after Brazil were knocked out of the World Cup following a 2-0 defeat to Norway. A brace from Manchester City‘s Erling Haaland condemned the South Americans to a bitterly disappointing early exit.

The timing of his medical remains uncertain at this stage. United may opt to grant him some time to rest and recuperate following the World Cup, or they could seek to finalise matters as swiftly as possible.

Between July 18 and August 1, Michael Carrick’s squad will take on Wrexham in Helsinki, Finland, Rosenberg in Trondheim, Norway and Atletico Madrid in Stockholm, Sweden. Whether Michael Carrick will be able to call upon him for any of these matches remains to be seen.

The friendly against Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg, Sweden on August 8 could prove to be the occasion when he makes his debut in a United shirt.

By the time United begin their Scandinavian pre-season tour, Carrick will undoubtedly be hoping Ederson isn’t his sole midfield option.

Currently, Kobbie Mainoo stands as the only senior central midfielder available, with Casemiro having departed and Manuel Ugarte sidelined with a serious knee injury sustained while representing Uruguay at the World Cup. United continue to be linked with a number of midfielders.

Former targets Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes were ultimately deemed too costly by the time they completed moves to Manchester City and Tottenham respectively.

Sandro Tonali is also poised to join the latter in a deal understood to be worth approximately £100m, having previously been linked with United.

Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and, most recently, Chelsea‘s Andrey Santos have all appeared on their list of potential targets.
