Horror as woman forced into van and gang raped – 7 attackers on death | World | News
A court in Bangladesh has sentenced seven men to death for the gang rape of a woman who was forced into a van and taken to an abandoned kitchen, where the men gang-raped her in turn before fleeing. On Monday, a Jamalpur court sentenced seven men to death over the abduction and gang-rape of a woman in the Jamalpur district of Bakshiganj upazila last year. The court also reportedly fined each of the seven men 1 lakh taka (around £607).
The death sentences were handed down to Pappu, Biju, Badsha, Jewel, Ashraful, Jasim and Asmat who are all residents of different villages in Bakshiganj upazila. Another accused was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim of the Jamalpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 delivered the verdict on Monday afternoon.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place around midnight on May 25, 2025, when the victim was returning to her rented home in the Jankipur area of Bakshiganj after visiting Jhagarchar Bazar in neighbouring Sherpur district.
The woman was travelling on an easy bike when the accused, who was acquitted, allegedly stopped the vehicle and forcibly took her away in a van, Dhaka Tribune reports.
She was then taken to an abandoned kitchen belonging to a man named Farid in the Nilaksia Uttarpara area of Bakshiganj, where the men gang-raped her in turn before fleeing.
The victim filed a case at Bakshiganj Police Station the following day, naming six individuals and identifying several others as unidentified suspects.
After an investigation lasting around eight months, police submitted the charge sheet to the tribunal on April 15. The court reached its decision after hearing testimony from prosecution witnesses during the trial.
