New sci-fi ‘masterpiece’ set for Oscars glory is now streaming on Amazon Prime | Films | Entertainment
It’s easily one of the best films of 2026 and is expected to be showered in Oscars nominations. Project Hail Mary is a film adaptation of The Martian author Andy Weir’s novel of the same name and once again follows a solo astronaut (Ryan Gosling) trying to get home.
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with a hilarious and heartfelt script by The Martian screenwriter Drew Goddard, this movie is a big return for blockbuster cinema. Much like the Matt Damon film, Project Hail Mary is more hard sci-fi, involving what-if scenario puzzle-solving for Gosling’s lead, except this time with the aid of an alien who happens to be on the same mission as him.
With 94 per cent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes (including my own), the critical consensus reads, “A visually dazzling space odyssey that’s carried along effortlessly by the gravitational pull of Ryan Gosling at his most winning, Project Hail Mary is a near-miraculous fusion of smarts and heart.” The much-loved film, hailed as a “masterpiece” by some, is now streaming in the Top 10 of Amazon Prime Video.
