Wimbledon LIVE: Final halted for medical emergency after BBC forced to issue apology | Tennis | Sport

The men’s doubles final between Harri Heliovaara / Henry Patten and Marcelo Arevalo / Mate Pavic was halted in the middle of the first set tiebreak due to a medical emergency in the stands.

Heliovaara was serving to extend his and Patten’s lead at 5-2 in the breaker when they had to stop playing.

“Harri, hold on,” the umpire said.

“I think someone is unwell in the crowd. It is a very, very hot day,” Chris Bradnam said on commentary. “And it’s right in the sun.”

Todd Woodbridge added: “It’s in the seats that bear the brunt of that direct sunlight.”

The chair umpire got on the phone and called for assistance, and Bradnam added: “He’s being well attended to and able to move and just being taken away into the shade. I’m sure, will get plenty of hydration. So I don’t think the delay is going to be too much longer. Hope they’re okay.”

When play resumed, it Heliovaara hit a double fault as he struggled to find rhythm again. But the Finnish-British duo still took the first set 7-6(4).
