I broke a Guinness World Record with Pitbull with 22,000 others | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

You wouldn’t be wrong to assume that donning a latex bald cap during record breaking temperatures is certifiably mad. But, like all denominations of madness, there’s reasoning attached – and a good one for the bald cap-clad mass that descended on central London this weekend.

There was another record looking to be smashed by the ‘Bald-Es’, the devoted fans of hairless hitmaker Pitbull, who were on a mission to make Mr Worldwide, Mr Worldrecord. And witnessing the fever dream unfurl at BST Hyde Park on Friday (10 July) was quite the spectacle to say the least.

The punt to secure the Guinness World Record of the largest gathering of people wearing bald caps was spearheaded by BBC Radio 1’s Greg James and presenter Jack Remmington. They gladly awarded the American singer-rapper the huge certificate as hats off – or hair off – to Pitbull; he managed to assemble 22,141 fans wearing bald caps.

However, the party was only just about to get started as the loaded bill of 2010s chart heroes was just about to crank up a notch.

While Pitbull lauded over his framed piece of bizarre music history, former antithesis of the pop princess Kesha took the stage for her set.

The LA-born singer confidently braced the stage in a one-piece metallic bodysuit that wouldn’t make you second-guess that there had been a sexy Transformers reboot.

Kesha seamlessly harnessed the energy and excitement bubbling over from the Guiness World Record smash as she reeled off the likes of TiK ToK, Blow and Die Young.

Her hedonistic hits made jumping up and down in 30C heat undeniable. Usually an energy lull at a concert is a real turn off, but witnessing Kesha belt out her slower songs was a real treat.

The party-girl anthem concoctor is, surprisingly, at her best singing her newer music that she released as an independent artist. Something that came after a lengthy decade-long legal battle.

Praying was emotional and the type of raw song that will pull on your heart-strings. But we’re all here for a party and Kesha closes her set with self-indulgent bop We R Who We R.

I couldn’t quite comprehend how the Bald-E’s were still donning their bald caps after the Guinness World Record announcement. There’s no denying that these primarily Gen-Z women fans of Pitbull are dedicated to the cause.

Despite being in the same cohort, I decided to let my hair down – quite literally – and headed for a bottle of wine to share between my friend and I.

Although I’m not quite an orthodox Pitbull fan, I do still believe in his verses; “Life is not a waste of time, and time is not a waste of life.

“So let’s stop wasting time, let’s get wasted, and have the time of our lives.”

The next hour and a half certainly proved that Pitbull practices what he preaches. Hyde Park transformed into a one huge party that didn’t feel like it was going to end.

Bouncing onto the stage with his usual get up (aviators, suit and a bald head), Pitbull got the crowd immediately jumping to Don’t Stop The Party.

Bopping bald heads replaced the sea of mobile phones – everyone just wanted to live in the moment and have a good time.

Pitbull continued with his concert healing etiquette powers with naughty-infused hits Hey Baby (Drop It to the Floor), Hotel Room Service and International Love.

He was joined on stage with some scantily-clad dancers who were as well versed at wiggling their bums as Pitbull is being bald.

Apparently, according to Tinder, 42% of Gen Z claim that a shaved or bald head makes a man more attractive so no wonder Pitbull has fans screeching in the crowd.

This doesn’t subside as he gets the crowd shaking their bottoms in unison with his very gorgeous dancers on stage thanks to a cover of Move Shake Drop.

I’ll leave the inspiration behind that song to your imagination.

The stiff heat is no match for the infectious energy of this concert as the bout of nostalgic tracks continue.

Pitbull dominated the charts in the 2010s with his collaborations. On The Floor, DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love and I Like It transports the crowd into a much more fun period in music where tracks aren’t congealed in attempts of going TikTok viral.

Pitbull is a master of a catchy, viral hit before social media demanded it.

For his most noteworthy collaboration, Pitbull brought Kesha out for their country-infused huge dance hit Timber. It marked an emotional moment for the pair as they performed the song together live for the first time in 13 years as Kesha is now a free artist.

The vivacious energy continued to Time Our Lives as everyone partied as one big collective, grin-laden strangers dancing with each other like nothing else in the world mattered.

After all, it’s hard not to adhere to the words of Mr Worldwide: “Forget about bills and the first of the month. It’s my night, your night, our night. Let’s turn it up.”

Pitbull continues to coax the crowd into a pure euphoric state as he mentions how it’s ‘coming home’ and plays a short snippet of Oasis’ Wonderwall, that has followed England’s World Cup journey.

He finishes his electric set with ‘Give Me Everything’ with the perfect lyrics to tie up a truly spectacular evening: “For all we know we might not get tomorrow.

“Let’s do it tonight.”

Pitbull may have been seen as a gimmick in the 2010s. But, he’s certainly proved himself as the messiah of having a good time, bald cap and all.

As he also broke another record with highest-recorded attendance for BST Hyde Park, argue with the 69,999 fans if you question the influence and adoration of Mr Worldwide.
