Manchester United have announced their squad for a pre-season friendly against Wrexham, but two new signings have missed out. Some of the Red Devils’ first-team have returned to training following the summer break, with those who weren’t involved in the World Cup getting ready for the new season.

United ended the 2025/26 campaign on a high, having finished third and secured qualification for next season’s Champions League. It was enough to earn Michael Carrick the job on a full-time basis, with the ex-United star having originally taken over from Ruben Amorim on a caretaker basis.

His first order of business will be getting the United team in shape for the new season, starting with a friendly against Wrexham in Helsinki. This is just the first part of United’s pre-season programme, with further matches to come in Norway, Sweden and Ireland.

The headline pick in the squad is Andrey Santos, who put pen to paper on a move from Chelsea earlier this month. However, there’s no place for freshly signed duo Youri Tielemans and Karl Darlow, who have been left out of the squad.

In the case of Tielemans, that’s because he’s granted time off following Belgium’s World Cup campaign, with the Red Devils (the other one!) knocked out at the quarter-finals stage by Spain. Tielemans joined from Aston Villa for £35million, after United triggered the midfielder’s release clause.

Following the Wrexham match, United will then travel to Norway for a clash against Rosenborg, with their next pre-season fixture also in Scandinavia. They’ll play against Atletico Madrid, who reached the Champions League semi-finals last season, in Stockholm, Sweden.

Following that, it’s matches against Paris Saint-Germain, Leeds United and AC Milan for the 20-time English champions. United’s Premier League campaign will begin against Hull City in mid-August, before another clash against a newly promoted side, Ipswich Town, at Old Trafford.

Matches against Everton, Manchester City and Fulham follow before the autumn international break, which this year will be extended to two weeks. Before that, United will begin their Champions League campaign, and for the first time, will feature in the revised League Phase format.
