Greece horror as two tourists hurt in stabbing attack at the Acropolis, Athens | World | News

Two American tourists have been injured after a knife attack in Athens, Greece, on Tuesday. A man has been arrested following the incident, which occurred at the southern entrance to the archaeological site at around 8.30am, opposite the Acropolis Museum.

The female victim suffered light injuries to the leg, while the male victim was more seriously hurt with wounds to the arm, police said. A passerby called the police and officers arrested the suspect, who is believed to have psychological issues, when they arrived on the scene.

An EKAB ambulance was also called to the scene to provide first aid to the injured.

The attacker was detained, while the two victims were transported to hospital by ambulance, authorities said.

The Acropolis hill in Athens hosts the nearly 2,500-year-old Parthenon temple as well as other monuments, and attracts millions of tourists. Last year, about 4.6 million people visited the site.
